How to Avoid Hearing and Penalties:
A CURE to a violation is an approved Certificate of Correction.
The Notice of Violation will display a CURE DATE - a deadline to submit a "CURE" to the violation.
Submitting the CURE in timely manner allows You to avoid paying penalties for eligible violations, if correction is certified before CURE DATE.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN CURE DATE DEADLINE PASS?
If you fail to answer a Notice of Violation before CURE DATE; You can not submit a Certificate of Correction and must attend an Environmental Control Board hearing.
Even if you have paid the ECB penalty, the violation remains open in Building Information System, serviced by the Department of Buildings. DOB has to approve your Certificate of Correction to completely remove the violation.
